River City Bank mourns the passing of C. King Askew, a visionary leader, trusted advisor, and cherished friend whose influence has been part of our bank from the very beginning.

Mr. Askew served as Chairman of the River City Bank Board of Directors from the bank’s formation in 2006 until his retirement in 2024. His leadership, wisdom, and steadfast belief in the value of community banking helped establish the foundation upon which River City Bank was built. Even after his retirement, he remained a tremendous resource, loyal supporter, and deeply valued member of our River City Bank family.

“I came to River City Bank late in Mr. Askew’s tenure, and what struck me immediately was how personally he took this bank,” said Matt Robbins, President and Chief Executive Officer. “He welcomed me from the very first conversation. He asked about this bank every time I saw him, not out of habit, but because he genuinely wanted to know. He shaped this institution from its first day, and his belief in it never wavered.”

“From the very first day, King led this bank with professionalism, honesty, and integrity, and with a genuine commitment to our shareholders, our board, and our employees,” said Scott Smith, Chairman of the Board. “He loved River City and wanted nothing more than to see this bank thrive. It is doing today exactly what he envisioned, and that is a direct result of his leadership and his dedication. I cannot say enough about how fortunate we were to have King as our Chairman, and more importantly, how fortunate we were to call him our friend.”

While we are deeply saddened by his passing, we are grateful for the many years of leadership, friendship, and encouragement he shared with us. His impact can be seen not only in the bank River City has become, but also in the countless lives he touched through his service, generosity, and commitment to our community.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Askew’s family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will remain an enduring and meaningful part of River City Bank’s story.
